We started Strange & Selfless because we are entirely done with people being invisible. This isn’t a charity; it’s a movement born from that heavy, quiet feeling of being overlooked—and the stubborn decision to do something about it.

 We aren't "experts" in suits with a clinical checklist. We are mentors, creators, and neighbors. We’re the ones packing the care packages at midnight and building the bridges when the road in front of you runs out. We don’t show up with a polished script; we just show up.

 You won’t find any corporate hoops to jump through here. We don’t need a resume of your trauma or a backstory of your mistakes to decide if you’re "worthy" of a hand. If the system told you "no" because of a decimal point, you’re in the right place. If you need a little bit of peace and a space to catch your breath, you already belong.

 We aren’t trying to "fix" you like you’re some broken machine. We are here to hold space when life gets messy, providing the kind of practical, on-the-ground help that actually moves the needle—not the kind that’s just for show. This is care without the pretense. This is a community that doesn't flinch when things get real. We see the value in you, especially when the rest of the world is looking the other way.

Our aesthetic isn’t a marketing gimmick or a trend we jumped on; it is a direct reflection of our DNA. We don't do pastel palettes, minimalist line art, or sanitized corporate branding. The community isn't sterile, and neither are we. Every piece of our visual identity is a deliberate statement about who we are, who we stand for, and how we show up.

Traditional charity branding relies heavily on the sanitized, symmetrical heart icon—a symbol of passive, gentle affection. We chose the anatomical heart because community work isn’t a Valentine; it is survival.

A real human heart is visceral, intricate, and intense. It is an engine. It works in the dark, under pressure, pumping vital resources exactly where they need to go to keep the body alive. By using the anatomical heart, we honor the raw, unfiltered reality of human connection. Our love for the community isn’t a soft sentimentality; it’s a fierce, vital, beat-for-beat necessity. We aren't here to be pretty; we are here to be the life support.

And for the font? Typography carries history, and blackletter holds weight. Often associated with counterculture, heavy music, and historical grit, it is a script that demands to be read and refuses to be ignored.

Standard sans-serif fonts are designed to blend in, lower the volume, and make institutions look safe and predictable. We don't want to blend in, and we certainly aren't predictable. We use blackletter because it represents resilience, history, and a refusal to dilute our identity for the sake of others' comfort. It honors alternative subcultures—the punks, the outsiders, the people who have had to build their own communities from scratch. It tells the world that we are rooted, we have backbone, and we are entirely unapologetic about taking up space. 

Together, the heart and the script create a paradox that defines us: absolute, raw vulnerability paired with fierce, unyielding strength. It’s a visual promise that we will always be entirely transparent, fiercely protective of our people, and completely "no gatekeeping" in everything we do.
